South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies (SAIACS)

South Asia Institute of Advanced Christian Studies (SAIACS) is an institute for postgraduate theological studies and research in Bangalore, India. We strive for biblical and contextually relevant theological studies so that students can make a meaningful and significant impact in their respective contexts for the glory of God.

History

SAIACS began with the conviction that the churches in India needed a reputable mission-focused centre of higher theological learning to equip people to meet the challenges of the twenty-first Century. In the summer of 1981 in Kodaikanal, Dr Bruce Nicholls and Dr Graham Houghton shared their dreams. Like-minded people in Chennai agreed on the need for an MTh in Missiology. Dr Graham Houghton, the Dean, set up the two-year course, and classes began in 1982 amid enthusiastic support from church leaders and prospective students.

In 1984, the programme moved to Bangalore with Dr Graham Houghton as the Principal, based in several houses until a suitable land was located near Kothanur, on the northern side of Bangalore.

The present SAIACS spreads over 10.5 acres of beautifully landscaped campus. It’s architecture won acclaim in the journalArchitecture and Design (Sept/Oct 1996).

Following founding Principal Dr Graham Houghton’s 20 years, Dr Ashish Chrispal and Dr Fanai Hrangkhuma served consecutively as Principal. Dr Ian Payne took up his duties as Principal in March 2008.

Southern Asia Bible College

Established in the year 1951, Southern Asia Bible College has continued to serve the sub-continent in preparing pastors, evangelists, teachers, community workers and Christian leaders for the past 63 years. More than 3000 men and women have passed through the portals of this institution and are fulfilling various responsibilities in serving the Church in Southern Asia. Today more than 300 students are preparing themselves to fulfil the call of God in their lives through the ministry of SABC.
